For a spouse visa, a family CNIC update or adding a wife to your family record, the handwritten Nikah Nama is often not enough. Offices and embassies ask for the NADRA marriage certificate, officially called the computerized Marriage Registration Certificate (MRC). This guide explains who issues it, the fee, documents, the online option through Pak ID, and how to get it attested for use abroad.

What Is the NADRA Marriage Certificate (MRC)?

The MRC is a one-page, computerized certificate in English and Urdu that records the marriage details from your registered Nikah Nama: names and CNIC numbers of the husband and wife, date and place of Nikah, and registration details. It is printed from NADRA's Civil Registration Management System (CRMS).

Keep both. The MRC does not replace the Nikah Nama; it is the official summary of it.

Who Issues the Marriage Certificate?

Although it's called the NADRA marriage certificate, NADRA offices do not issue it. It is issued by the office where the Nikah was registered:

  • Union Council or Municipal Committee
  • TMA in some cities
  • Cantonment Board in cantonment areas
  • Arbitration Council in Islamabad
  • e-Khidmat Markaz in Punjab (selected centres, helpline 1317)

If your Nikah was never registered, do that first. Our Nikah Nama registration guide explains on-time and late registration.

Documents Required for the MRC

Punjab e-Khidmat Markaz asks for the following (other provinces are similar):

  • Application form
  • Copy of the registered Nikah Nama (bring the original for verification)
  • CNIC copy of the applicant
  • CNIC copies of the bride and groom
  • CNIC copies of the fathers of the bride and groom
  • CNIC copies of the witnesses (asked by many Union Councils)

NADRA Marriage Certificate Fee 2026

There is no single nationwide fee; each province and local council sets its own.

How to Apply for the NADRA Marriage Certificate

  1. Confirm the Nikah is registered with the Union Council where it was performed.
  2. Collect documents: original Nikah Nama plus copies and all CNIC copies listed above.
  3. Visit the Union Council (or e-Khidmat Markaz in Punjab) and fill the MRC application.
  4. Proofread the printout. Staff enter the data into the NADRA system and give you a proof-reading copy. Check every name spelling, CNIC number and date carefully.
  5. Pay the fee and keep the receipt.
  6. Collect the MRC once it is signed and stamped.

Warning: Spelling mistakes on the MRC are the main reason visa files get delayed. Names must match the CNICs and passports exactly. Correct them before signing the proof-reading copy.

Marriage Certificate Through Pak ID

NADRA's Pak ID app offers digital marriage certificates in selected areas, and NADRA has signed an agreement with Punjab's Local Government Department to bring Union Council birth, death, marriage and divorce services to the app. Open Pak ID and check whether the service is listed for your Union Council. If not, use the office method.

Using the MRC Abroad (Visa & Attestation)

For spouse visas and immigration, embassies usually ask for the computerized MRC attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), together with the Nikah Nama and an English translation. MOFA attests documents at its offices in major cities. Check your embassy's list before applying. Overseas couples can ask a close relative in Pakistan to collect the MRC with an authority letter and copies of their NICOP or passport.

Next Steps After Getting the MRC

  • Update the CNIC: the wife can apply for a CNIC modification to update marital status and husband's name. See how modifications work in our CNIC modification guide.
  • Family record: your family tree then appears on the FRC.
  • Children: the MRC and parents' updated CNICs are used for the child's birth certificate and B-Form.
