CNIC address change online 2026 – fee, documents and Pak ID steps

Quick answer

To change the address on your CNIC, apply for a CNIC modification on the Pak ID app or at a NADRA centre, upload proof of the new address (usually a utility bill), and pay the fee: Rs 400 for a regular CNIC or Rs 750 for a Smart NIC on normal priority. Your CNIC number stays the same.

Moved to a new house or a new city? CNIC address change online is now possible through NADRA's Pak ID app, so in most cases you don't have to stand in a queue at a NADRA office. This guide covers the official 2026 fee, the documents NADRA accepts as address proof, the exact steps in Pak ID, the office method and the most common reasons applications get rejected.

CNIC Address Change Fee 2026 (Official NADRA Rates)

NADRA treats an address change as a CNIC modification. A new card is printed, so the normal modification fee applies. These are the rates on NADRA's official fee structure page:

Card typeNormalUrgentExecutive
CNIC (regular) modificationRs 400 (15 days)Rs 1,150 (12 days)Rs 2,150 (6 days)
Smart NIC modificationRs 750 (31 days)Rs 1,500 (23 days)Rs 2,500 (9 days)

Why do different websites show different prices? Because NADRA issues two card types. Rs 400 is the regular CNIC rate and Rs 750 is the Smart NIC rate. Applications through Pak ID produce a Smart NIC, so expect the Smart NIC fee there. Fees are revised from time to time; the amount shown at the payment step is final. You can confirm the current table on nadra.gov.pk.

Note: You cannot combine an address change with a simple renewal. NADRA's policy is that no data changes are allowed on a renewal or duplicate, so if your card is also expiring, apply for a modification directly. For renewal-only cases, follow our CNIC renewal online guide.

Present Address vs Permanent Address: Which One Should You Change?

Every CNIC shows two addresses, and you can update one or both in the same application for the same fee:

  • Present (current) address – where you live now. Change it when you rent or buy a new house, or shift to another city for a job.
  • Permanent address – your family's permanent home. It decides where your vote is registered, so change it only when your family has permanently moved.

Many people only change the present address after renting a flat in Lahore, Karachi or Islamabad and keep the permanent address of their home district. That is completely normal.

Documents Required for CNIC Address Change

  • Your current CNIC (a clear photo of the front and back if applying online)
  • Proof of the new address – usually a recent electricity, gas or water bill of the new house. A bill in your own name, or your father's or husband's name, is the easiest to get approved.
  • Rented house: rent agreement plus the landlord's utility bill
  • Purchased property: registry, fard or allotment letter
  • Live photo and fingerprints (taken in the app or at the NADRA centre)

Tip: Lost the paper bill? Download a duplicate in two minutes from our electricity bill check online or gas bill check online guides and save it as a PDF for upload.

CNIC Address Change Online: Step-by-Step (Pak ID App)

  1. Install Pak ID from the Play Store or App Store (publisher: NADRA), or open id.nadra.gov.pk on a computer.
  2. Log in or register with your CNIC number, a mobile number registered in your own name and your email address.
  3. Open the Identity Card section and choose the modification / change of information option.
  4. Your existing record loads automatically. Go to the address fields and type the new present and/or permanent address exactly as it appears on the bill: house number, street, mohalla, city and district.
  5. Upload the address proof – a clear photo or PDF of the utility bill, rent agreement or registry.
  6. Take a live photo and complete fingerprint verification with your phone camera, following the on-screen guide.
  7. Select the priority (Normal, Urgent or Executive) and pay online with a debit or credit card or the payment options shown.
  8. Save the tracking ID and check progress in the app or by SMS – see our NADRA CNIC tracking guide.
  9. The new card is sent by courier. Keep using your old CNIC until the new one arrives.

Changing the Address at a NADRA Registration Centre

If fingerprint verification fails in the app, or you would rather let NADRA staff handle it, visit any NADRA Registration Centre (NRC) with your old CNIC and the address proof. The process is: token, data entry of the new address, photo and fingerprints, fee payment and a receipt with your tracking ID. Check NADRA office timing before you go, and keep the NADRA helpline number for follow-ups.

Common Reasons an Address Change Is Rejected

  • The address typed in the form does not match the address printed on the bill.
  • Blurry, cropped or dark document uploads.
  • The bill belongs to someone with no family link and no rent agreement is attached.
  • The permanent address is shifted to another district with no supporting proof.

If NADRA returns your application, the reason is shown in the app. Fix it and resubmit the same application.

Warning: Only apply through the official Pak ID app, id.nadra.gov.pk or a NADRA centre. Agents who promise to "change the address from home" usually just use the same app and charge you extra.

After the Address Change

Once the new card arrives, update your address with your bank, mobile network and the tax department if you are a filer. Your family tree does not change, so there is no need to reapply for an FRC. If you lose the new card later, see our guide to getting a duplicate CNIC.

Urdu mein khulasa

CNIC par address badalne ke liye Pak ID app ya NADRA office se "modification" apply karein. Naye ghar ka bijli ya gas ka bill upload karein (kiraye ke ghar ke liye rent agreement bhi), photo aur fingerprints dein aur fee pay karein. 2026 mein normal fee regular CNIC ke liye 400 rupay aur Smart NIC ke liye 750 rupay hai. Aap ka CNIC number wohi rehta hai, sirf address badalta hai. Naya card courier se ghar aa jata hai.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CNIC address change fee in 2026?
Rs 400 (normal) for a regular CNIC and Rs 750 (normal) for a Smart NIC. Urgent and executive options cost more, up to Rs 2,500, but the card is ready faster.
Can I change my CNIC address online without visiting NADRA?
Yes. The Pak ID app lets you apply for a modification, upload address proof, verify fingerprints and pay online. You only need to visit a NADRA centre if in-app verification fails.
How long does a CNIC address change take?
About 15 days for a regular CNIC on normal priority and around a month for a Smart NIC on normal priority. Executive priority takes roughly a week.
Which document is best as address proof?
A recent electricity or gas bill of the new house. If the bill is not in your family's name, attach a rent agreement or property registry as well.
Does changing my CNIC address change my domicile or vote?
It does not change your domicile certificate. Your vote is linked to the address on your CNIC, so changing the permanent address can move your vote to the new area.
Will my CNIC number change after an address change?
No. Your 13-digit CNIC number stays the same; only the printed address changes.
