SIM Check on CNIC: How Many SIMs Are Registered on My CNIC? (668 Method 2026)

Quick answer

Send your 13-digit CNIC number (without dashes) by SMS to 668 to see how many SIMs are registered on it, network by network. If you find a SIM you do not use, visit that network's franchise with your original CNIC to block it, or file a complaint with PTA. Unknown SIMs on your CNIC can be misused for fraud, so check regularly.

Every mobile SIM in Pakistan is registered against a CNIC through biometric verification. Criminals sometimes get SIMs issued on other people's CNICs and use them for fraud calls, fake bank messages or harassment. If a SIM on your CNIC is misused, investigators may contact you. That is why a regular SIM check on CNIC is important — and it takes only one SMS.

Method 1: SIM check on CNIC by SMS to 668

  1. Open the messages app on any mobile phone.
  2. Type your 13-digit CNIC number without dashes.
  3. Send it to 668.
  4. You will receive a reply listing how many SIMs are registered on your CNIC with each network (Jazz, Zong, Telenor, Ufone/Onic etc.).

This official PTA service shows the count per operator, not the actual phone numbers. To find out which numbers they are, contact each operator's helpline or franchise with your CNIC.

Method 2: PTA website

PTA also offers an online SIM information system where you can enter your CNIC and a captcha to see the number of active SIMs per operator. Use only the link published on PTA's official website (pta.gov.pk) — many look-alike "SIM owner details" sites collect personal data illegally.

How many SIMs can be registered on one CNIC?

Under PTA rules, a maximum of 8 SIMs for voice/data can be issued on one CNIC across all networks. If your count is close to the limit and you do not recognise some SIMs, block them — they also prevent you from getting new SIMs later.

How to block a SIM you do not recognise

  1. Note which network the unknown SIM belongs to from the 668 reply.
  2. Visit that operator's customer service centre or franchise with your original CNIC.
  3. Ask them to show the numbers issued on your CNIC and request blocking of the ones you do not use. Biometric verification confirms it is you.
  4. If the operator does not help, file a complaint on PTA's Consumer Complaint Management System (complaint.pta.gov.pk) or call PTA's helpline 0800-55055.

Safety tips: Never give your thumb impression at a SIM stall for "verification" or "free gifts" without being sure what it is for, never share OTP codes, and do not hand your CNIC copy to unknown people. If your CNIC was lost, apply for a duplicate and check SIMs immediately.

What to do if a SIM on your CNIC was used for fraud

  1. Block the SIM immediately through the operator, as described above, and ask for written confirmation or a complaint number.
  2. Report to PTA through the complaint portal so there is an official record that the SIM was not issued with your consent.
  3. File a complaint with the FIA Cyber Crime Wing if the SIM was used for fraud, harassment or financial scams.
  4. Keep evidence — screenshots of the 668 reply, complaint numbers and any messages you received.
  5. Secure your accounts — change bank app and email passwords if any OTPs could have gone to that number.

How to transfer a SIM to your own name

If you use a SIM registered on a parent's or relative's CNIC, transfer it to yours. Both people visit the operator's franchise with original CNICs; after biometric verification of both, ownership is transferred and the number stays the same. This matters because services like banking apps, the Pak ID app and FBR's IRIS increasingly require the SIM to be on your CNIC.

SIM check for a lost or stolen phone

If your phone is lost, call your operator to block the SIM right away and get a replacement SIM on the same number with biometric verification. To block the phone itself, report its IMEI through PTA's DIRBS or your operator's lost-and-stolen service.

Why you need your own SIM for other services

Many services now send OTPs only to a SIM registered on your own CNIC — for example FBR's IRIS when you register as a filer, banking apps and the Pak ID app. If you use a SIM registered in a relative's name, transfer ownership to yourself at the operator's franchise.

  • Lost CNIC duplicate — lost your card? Check SIMs, block unknown ones and get a duplicate CNIC.
